Hi All ,
I am very confused on whether to install a sprinkler system now.
Now that we have the water restriction in Cary, I am not sure about that.
Being optimistic, I want to go for it...But ughh!!! Any ideas?
I would almost say if you are building new, or redoing an entire yard, maybe go to the expense of installing a system, with the idea you may be able to use it at some point. I am sure a realtor could better direct you as to how much, if any, value a system adds to your home's resale.
I heard on the local news, at noon today, that if/when Falls Lake reaches 90% capacity, officials will re-visit the water restrictions, and possibly take the area back to a level one restriction. Even then, you would only be allowed to water your yard once weekly?
I'm not sure how much you would be using your system, if you installed it now, but so many new homes in certain price ranges, come with systems until I think it may not be a bad move. But again, I am no home appraiser.
I believe in Cary you can hook up to a reclaimed water feed for watering purposes, and that this doesn't carry the same restrictions as potable water. If that is the case, then there really isn't any reason *not* to install a sprinkler system.

Just a point of clarification - Cary uses Jordan for water, while Raleigh uses Falls Lake.

Reclaimed water is only available in a limited area, so that is something to check closely.
Unfortunately the majority of Cary homes do not have access to the reclaimed water system! Installing a system is a risk right now, not knowing what the future drought situation will be like.
FYI - Starting April 1st you can water in Apex on there odd/even schedule. I am sure Cary will re-instating that soon too but that is pure speculation. Jordan lake was 5 feet over normal level last week and it looks like they had to let some more out to get the water level down.
I spent about $3000 for a 5 zone, 5 heads per zone system. I used a company I think was out of Raleigh called Cityview Landscaping. The workers were very professional and the owner was frequently at my house during the work.
