It seems that their model/strategy is going towards smaller urban stores (so access from a freeway doesn't seem to have been the deal breaker here)
Obviously, the price of land in an "urban" setting will probably be more expansive than one along an Interstate. I guess if the stores are smaller, than it might be a wash, but probably not.
Maybe they are assuming all those hipster millennial urbanites with no vehicles will use Uber, rent a truck or just pay IKEA to deliver their purchases to their apartments?
Hey Cary NIMBY'S: Allow Top Golf to come again. Y'all ain't got no room talk after supporting IKEA coming to town. If you were going to allow all the traffic and disruption from having an IKEA store, then you should allow Top Golf to come to town
Actually, I think a comprehensive mixed-use solution would be superior to having Ikea in that location.
But, it always hurts when she says, "It's not you. It's me..."
Nah...this was definitely Ikea saying 'it's you" to Cary.
Maybe they'll put a store in DT Raleigh or DT Durham instead?
Are there many urban-setting ikeas out there now? I feel like that is a huge move from the norm on them.
I wonder if there is some other underlying reason they don't want to talk about. Maybe they heard what the acronym of Cary stands for and they didn't like it. haha

That's what I was thinking, I mean come on, the proposed location was what 1/2 of mile (at most) from Exit 291 on I-40?
And the whole suburban vs. urban thing, it's not like Cary is out near Fuquay or something!
Exactly, it's the inner part of an inner suburb; right on the Cary-Raleigh border. Near-enough to the cross roads of I40-440/Hwy 1 to be accessible from all points north-south-east-west. Great central convenient location drawing from all 3 major local colleges, ubranite hipsters, suburban soccer moms, and everyone in-between (demographically and geographically).
This is certainly a blow to Cary and the triangle... no doubt about it. Guess we are not "global-city-ish" enough.
The push for urban stores has nothing to do with Cary - it's been going on for a while now, and apparently is the direction that Ikea wants to go in now.
