perhaps you should look into magic jack. if you have high speed internet it's only $40 per year for unlimited calling. plus you can take it with you wherever you go. even overseas and call wherever you want for free. it's like $40 for the first year and either $20 or $30 each year after that. not sure how long they can stay in business though at those prices. you can use it wherever you have a high speed internet connection.

I switched from Verizon to Time Warner Cable (high speed internet, phone and digital cable) So far I have no complaints and I'm happy that I don't have to worry that my phone bill will not be the same every month with little, weird, piddly charges.

^Why pay $40/month for TWC when you can pay $25 (plus about $5/month in fees) for Vonage which is the exact same as TWC? I used to have TWC phone, internet, and cable and was paying $120/month. Outrageous! I switched to Vonage and now only pay $30/month for the same exact service and quality. I also now only pay $60/month for internet and cable from TWC which I'm definitely enjoying the savings.

If you want local phone, high speed internet and cable television as a package deal in Cary, who is best to use. How much will it cost? Right now I get 150 channels, unlimited bandwidth at 3G speed for about $142 a month, all taxes included. Can I do better?

But doesn't magicjack require your computer to be running all the time? It uses a USB connection. Our computer gobbles up a good bit of power...

Thanks for you all. This is my research results.

AT&T has stopped service in this area. I called them and no service here.

Since I want to a land phone, I called Embarq, they also don't serve this area anymore.

So my choice is Vonage. Before I call, I have one concern, Do I need my computer on when I use vonage? I read magic jack need that. I don't like that. Thanks a lot,

^No, your computer does not have to be on to use Vonage. Installation is a breeze. They'll send you a router free of charge. All you do is run a phone wire from their router to a phone jack and a wire from the router to your modem. It's that easy.

Thanks, underPSI. I called vonage a little earlier and they ask me to pay like $45 for the equipment (maybe the router). I will call again and ask them to waive the fee. Thanks a lot,
