I've been happy with Bell South, now AT&T -- if not their price, then their service, and especially their aim to please their customers.
Regardless of who you choose, I'd be an informed consumer. Be sure you know of several providers, and what they charge for specific services, so you can negotiate the best price for your wants/needs. You can probably conduct your own survey of prices/services fairly easily online. It'd be time well-spent.
As pleased as I have always been with AT&T, I called to ask why Verizon, and Embarq, among others, could offer better prices for the same services? I negotiated an equally-reasonable fee for the services, for a period of 6 months, and when that time is up, I'll re-negotiate, if they hope to keep my business.
Thanks a lot. I searched online and found out:
AT&T Primary Residential Line with Unlimited local calling. It is $18.75/month
For vonage, it has a basic phone just about $17 and include long distance. It is a much better deal.
however, it need use my time warner internet cable connection. Will it affects the quality of phone?

Now, that's not true for AT&T. Ask about the "junk" fees before you compare. Close to doubles the cost for me.
I'm going to Time-Warner as soon as I change apts in a few days. Got a new one in the same community.
findinghope, how do you like your vonage? Is the quality OK?
