Hi all,

I was hoping someone has experience with this and can help me out. Long story short, I recently moved from NC to another state. My car is registered in NC, and has been financed through a bank. I actually just went ahead and paid off the auto loan in full today.

I now want to register my vehicle in the new state in the next couple of weeks. However, in order to do so, I need the title. I contacted the bank, and they said NC DMV has the title electronically.

Is anyone familiar with the process? If so, would appreciate any info. Below are a few other questions I have as well:

1) Now that the loan is paid off, will the bank typically send me some confirmation of this? If so, do I need to provide this to NC DMV?

2) The part I'm a little worried about is the fact that I no longer live in NC. Is this a process that requires me to physically go to an NC DMV location?

Any other advice/info is appreciated. Thanks fellow North Carolinians!

No personal experience but in Google I found these FAQs that suggest that after lien has been released electronically a paper title can be produced by DMV and mailed to the owner: NC Electronic Lien and Title (ELT) Questions and Answers | Carolina Dealer Training

It might make sense to call DMV to get most accurate information. Also let them know your new address, otherwise your title would get mailed to NC address.

Good luck with your move!
