Hello there,
I'm am really new to this site (behind the times a bit)....My husband and I run a family owned and operated construction company (doing kitchens and bathrooms) We live in NY on Long Island and seriously thinking of moving to N.C. for a few years now. A huge concern is obviously business. My husband is a word-of-mouth contractor, all referred business and has been for 20 years. Does anyone know if there is a need for kitchen and bath remodelers in the Raleigh area? ior is it as saturated of a business as NY? Just to give you some insight, we are bidding against companies like Alure (Extreme home makeovers) they are located a mile from us. Does anyone know if it's a fertile place to start our business all over again? Can anyone refer big companies in that area or Local unions etc..

Any help is appreciated. We just started our family and LI is just too expensive now and market is terrible. Looking to start fresh with our little ones.

Thank you!

That's a hard call. There are many renovators here. And since the building has slowed down a bit, I don't know if you could break into the business and survive. I think it takes time to build a business such as yours because like you said, it's been word of mouth and that really is hard to establish at first. There are larger companies here as well, and I find most people when doing renovation work ask around who they used, etc. The cost of living is much better, but I guess you would have to weigh in what is more important. I hope what ever you decide, works out for you. This area is very attractive and I wouldn't trade it for any other place.
