But Lowe's sells plenty of lamentable stuff.

Most nurseries cater to popular taste, with little concern about quality, appropriateness, or invasiveness.

Yep. People want those things. They stock it and they fly off the shelves. The boss lady just picked up a "Heavenly Bamboo" the other day from Lowe's.

There are several clumping varieties that aren't invasive at all. I have a fargesia robusta in the front yard that has spread all of two feet in eight years. There are many other types that do well in NC.
