Only had Mod pizza once in Raleigh; was the first place I'd been to with the "no limit or price difference on toppings"....excellent.
Blaze recently opened a Durham location that is much closer to me than any Mod....and they have that spicy marinara sauce which gives them the edge. Never been without a line literally out the door. So good!
Totally agree with the above consensus on casa carbone and Assaggio. Bella Monica is okay, But for us, not worth the carbs.
The only time I remember having good Italian food in the Triangle was at the downtown location of Vic's.
Good to hear, and saw LordHelmit's though I think I can't see other comments on Assaggio.
Am with you on the carbs, we no longer have Italian very often for the same reason so am very choosy when I do. Next up for pizza is Oakwood Pizza Box per Pierre's recommendation, but it won't be anytime soon.
Any experience with Bellini "Fine Italian Cuisine" (their words not mine)? Passed by that when going to Tony's.

We ate at two new (for us) places in Cary, both were on our bucket list, it was my birthday with my sweetie:
Postmaster was OK. Honestly, I thought they were trying too hard, and not executing enough. Nothing bad, but I'm not compelled to go back. We got their peach salad, and some whey bread to go with it. It was perfectly fine, but not WOW. Their prices, and the way their menu is written, it should be WOW.
Pro Epicurean was AWESOME. We got Escargot and Barratta. This is a locally owned place, by people from upstate NY. Owners run the kitchen, and the front of the house. Service was great, and well-staffed. As an ex-chef myself, I recognized the passion of the chef/owner here. He saw me checking out their cheese display and we spoke for a while. Same with his wife, who runs the front. Everything was just perfect, and we left knowing that we have at least 3-4 visits JUST to try out all the things on the menu that we had trouble passing on last night.
I hope our expeience was not an anomaly. This place is a true foodie experience. Not pretentious, but certainly up to the task. Go check them out!
(Also in the same area is a cool looking cocktail bar that we didn't hit, Bond Brothers, which I visit regularly, and Pizza Faulisi, which has a loyal following, but just doesn't click for me. This little area is getting a nice density of interesting and good food places.)
I went to Bull & Bean in Durham for brunch today - could not find a place to park in that shopping center but couldn't find one restaurant in that center that was remotely crowded? I was stumped haha. But the food was good! I had the loaded hash browns with pulled pork.
Big Dom's Bagel Shop in DT Cary for breakfast. Bacon egg and cheese on a bagel. Not skimpy with the bacon and had a nice smoky flavor and the bagels (we did plain) are nice and chewy with a decent "crust". It's a new local place owned by the couple that does Pizzeria Faulisi -literally a few steps away; very very hard working folks. Opened just like 2 weeks ago. I hope they eventually offer lox... all the way.
I hated the way Subway cut the rolls years ago if any of you remembered. They cut a small V in the top and dug it out with their fingers. I ate there last about 20 years or so ago. I got the tuna sub and it did me in big time.
The place was empty and looked pretty worn out.
I was halfway through a typical unremarkable sub.
And a feller in a White Shirt with a Clipboard stood up and posted a 90 Health Score.
LOL
Bleah….
