The park's own branding refers to it as "The Research Triangle Park". Note the header graphic on the RTP home page:

https://www.rtp.org

Elsewhere on the site, you'll find references styled as "RTP" and "the RTP".

it really comes down to if you see it as a proper noun or not.

RTP is pretty synonmous with our area so it doesnt need it.

Is the research triangle a place? or a description?

We do say "THUH TRIANGLE" but we don't say "THE CARY"

Yes:
RTP
The Park

No:
The RTP
The Research Triangle

NEVER:
RDU, unless you mean the freaking airport!

Traffic on That Station would be the same girl that’s on Mix 101.5 lol. So she is local. So much for that theory!

It was also WCHL that made up the odious "Chapelboro."

Ahhh, I kinda like Chapelboro since I live almost on the border of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Kids went to Carrboro Elementary, but we vote in Chapel Hill.

I could kinda see "The Research Triangle Park". I've always referred to it as RTP or "the park", though.

So the President lives in White House?

You go to New York to see Statue of Liberty?

Or Arizona to see Grand Canyon?

Seems to me those are examples of proper nouns that do indeed use an article.

RTP isn't synonymous with our area. It is a specific part of our area.

Neither have I, but I listen to SiriusXM or streaming music almost entirely. I don't think I've listened to AM/FM in almost a decade.

"The RTP" just sounds silly.
