My DH, who works in RTP, said he has never heard of it referred to as "The Park" or "The RTP"
It's RTP plain and simple, no need to change it or make it sound trendy.

Well, "the park" is definitely in use. It's be around as long as I can remember, which is pretty dang long. You'd use it in conversation something like this:

Person 1: "I'm applying for a new job at XYZ Corp"
Person 2: "Is that out in the park?"

It's a little like people using "Chapel Hill" and "UNC" in synonymous ways i.e.: "Where'd you go to college" "Chapel Hill" or "Our oldest is graduating from Chapel Hill this year with a BA in Chemistry, and now she's applying to grad schools."

If someone says "the park" to me....that means Umstead or Eno.

That's probably just me though. haha

You can google "RTP" and "the park". There are articles and marketing spiel that reference "the park", but again, it's a very casual reference, not really even a nickname, just shorthand.

And I'll stop there because it's late, but "the park" is definitely a thing.

"The RTP" is one that I haven't heard until lately, though. Not so sure about it.

Much ado about nada.

I tended to say "The RTP," like many people do. This was slapped down hard here years ago.
And, I have heard "The Park" many times.

Whether you say you work in "RTP," "The RTP," or "The Park," I assume you are referring to "Research Triangle Park" or even "The Research Triangle Park," and then I have a pretty good clue where...
(Now, if you work at Umstead Park, I have erred in that assumption.)
If you say you work in "Durham," but you actually work in "RTP," "The RTP," "The Park," or "The Research Triangle Park," I have less of a clue.

Several mentions of "the park."
