well, it was more intense than the other inoculations i have had.
i am glad i got it, and i wanted people to be aware of the afterwards.

the story:
the Chapel Hill area drug stores are "out" of the new Shingrix vaccine. a Walgreens tech told me they started a waiting list, but it got to 125 and they quit.
so, i was in Burlington, stopped in and they had it and i got it. (there are TWO shots needed. my follow-up is in October). my arm hurt just like a regular flu
or tetanus or pneumonia shot. the shot was given around Noon. by 6PM my arm hurt enough that i did not want to raise my hand above my head.
if my arm was by my side, it did not hurt at all, and when i say "hurt", i mean like a flu shot "tightness" that is 3X more intense.
that night i had fever symptoms. shivering then sweating. over and over. i am glad i did not have to go to work the next morning.
took some aspirin about 5AM, and slept until 10:30 AM. i was groggy, but better. the arm soreness went away that day, and everything is fine now...
...BUT when i get the 2nd shot, i will not plan anything for the next day.

i am not complaining. i will do it again. i have seen shingles. the after effects are worth it if it works.

Thanks for sharing. I've been considering getting the shingles vaccine. Good to know how to prepare for the after effects.

If you don't have insurance coverage that pays for this, does anybody know what this new series costs?

I got the old version last year (after I reached my $5,000 annual deductible with one 2.5 hour visit to the ER), but I'm not real inclined to pay for another out of pocket. . .

my insurance covered it, but i would have paid $500 for two shots. for me, that is better than one shingles infection.

I had the first one several weeks ago...in July. It was definitely a little more painful to get and I was just a little sore th next day. Not as bad as with a tetanus shot.
But weirdly I do have a tiny spot on my arm that is still tender if I hunt around and press on it.
Definitely won’t stop me from getting the second one.
Shingles sounds like zero fun.

I had shingles in my 20s and it wasn't bad, but a friend had it a few years ago and it got in his eye!

Wheelsup, it's Chapel Hill relevant since Twingles said Chapel Hill pharmacies were out. This forum isn't all about Raleigh.
