My 4 yr old has a pink eye without any obvious discharge since Wednesday. Visited his pediatrician Saturday, they prescribed antibacterial eye drops but stated that if it doesn't work within 48 hrs, it may be viral and I need to visit an eye doctor (for steroid based drug)

The thing is his fever runs up to 103 if we don't give motrin/ibuprofen every 6 hours.

They recommended MyEyeDoctor chain. I rather avoid those chains and go to a Pediatric eye doctor.

Any recommendations?

thanks

If you are interested in a regular eye doctor with a great bedside manner I recommend Dr. David Bigsby. I take my daughter to him, he's extremely quiet, gentle and takes his time. Would not hesitate to take a small child to him. Hope your child feels better soon!

Where are you located? My husband is an eye doctor (not taking new patients, so I am not trying to promote him), but I can probably recommend someone close by to where you live.

Our pediatrician prescribed steroid eye drops when my son had bits pink eye. I’m surprised yours wouldn’t honestly.

Well, actually her pediatrician is correct to refer her to an eye doctor. Steroids are sometimes not recommended as they can delay healing. An eye doctor can check for corneal infiltrates, etc. Most pediatricians are really not equipped to check the eyes thoroughly.

Duke! One of the top five ophthalmic eye centers in the U.S. And huge. I would be surprised if they cannot get you in with 24 hours - especially when you mention the fever.

The quick appointment may not be with a pediatric ophthalmologist, but I see no reason that any ophthalmologist or optometrist cannot successfully and quickly treat this. I'm NC, both can prescribe the type of drugs required. (NOT an optician)
