According to the article, the forecast is for gusts up to 30mph. It sure did look like Michael was strengthening to near Cat-5 before landfall. Somehow, that 30mph estimate just seems a little low, because it's the same forecast they had when Michael was barely a Cat-2.

I dunno. Maybe it won't be much of anything, but I pity the person who works or goes to the fair after noon tomorrow.

Maybe the story was updated after you shared the link, but the Fair is delaying opening until Friday.

So, WRAL continues with the forecast for gusts up to 30mph.

A local met I follow on Twitter had this to say:

https://twitter.com/RaleighWx/status...80681026605056

He also posted this graphic. Bear in mind, these are forecast winds at 30 feet (tree height)

So, the graphic doesn't show, but the link should work. Essentially, the forecast is for wind gusts above 50mph.

Glad to hear that. I checked their website right before I posted and there hadn't been any change.

His tweets are about 12-18 hours ahead of what any local forecasters report. I noticed that during Florence. His tweets about Florence were pretty much right on

It's just not likely to be a huge deal here — more along the lines of a severe thunderstorm like we have all summer. You can get 30-40 mph winds with those and flash flooding too. Hope I didn't jinx us.

The Governor's state of emergency declaration helps with preparations down east where they do not need one inch more rain right now.

Granville also closed so you would be wrong.

Alan is awesome.

This thing was a few mph shy of a cat 5. My friend was sending me videos while she hunkered down 300' from the ocean near Mexico Beach on the Eastern side of the eye. Thankfully their house was 10' in the air but the water came to the bottom and their roof is gone. She had a glass of water shaking on the counter top because the entire house was physically shaking. The eyewall is still completely visible and it's almost in Georgia as a cat 4. What we get in the Triangle will depend on track but we have the potential for a strong tropical storm. 3-10" of rain and 60+ winds. Trees will come down in these conditions. This will be SIGNIFICANTLY worse than Florence if we get a direct hit. Thankfully i'm still prepped from Florence but plan to gas up tonight. Might even fill up the 5 gallon container for my inverter generator. I can always stick the gas in my wifes car.

Tropical storm warning for Wake and Durham.

Did we get a warning with Florence? I honestly can't remember if it was only a watch or not.

Track appears to have shifted a little more to the west.
