The YMCA on Holly Springs Road is $100/month for a family, but I do not know what the price is for a couple. We belong because by doing so you get a discount on child care and track out camps, but if it wasn't for that, we would cancel. I have not been impressed with the quality or quantity of their resistance training equipment.

I used to belong to Planet Fitness in Cary, but dropped my membership when I started work at a company with an on-site fitness center. I liked Planet Fitness because it only cost $10/month, was new and clean, and had all of the equipment that I needed (I only use the weights).

I belonged to Planet Fitness for 8 years when I lived in Raleigh. It was a great gym, clean and lots of options for cardio and weights. I don't like group classes, so it was ideal for me and at $10/month it was a great deal. I worked out 4-6 days a week, so worst case scenario, it cost me $.62 each time I worked out.

O2 is currently running specials. I believe it's waiving the enrollment fee and $35 per month for an individual membership.

Do your gyms provide towels?

Our Fitness Connection no longer does. It has a lot of machines and is big but is dingy and dark. We got our memberships during a promotion but I wouldn't want to pay any more for it.

Rather weird that some gyms don’t want to post their regular fees online in this day and age. I was looking up gyms in Cary/Apex yesterday and Lifetime and few others had membership fees on their websites. Clubworx has an email on their website (look for “ask a question” link at the very bottom). Use a “burner” email account. O2 also has an email posted. But under “membership pricing” it says “call or visit”. Send a carrier pigeon LOL.

I bring my own towel, it was $3 at Walmart or Target like eight years ago...

It's not the cost, it's the convenience, plus I run to and from the gym. Also they provided them when we signed up and for a long time after that. Pretty crappy service in my experience and opinion, it's your prerogative if you're ok with that.

Also over the decades that every other other gym I belonged to in 3 different countries I lived in including this one provided towels.

It's very simple: They have copied the technique employed by car dealerships. C'mon in and let's negotiate.

Yes, but I pay an a lot for a gym, so they better ($99 month at Lifetime). I know Planet Fitness doesn't include towels. Is your Fitness Connection the one on SixForks (not the North Hills one, the other one)? I got a sketchy vibe from that place when I looked at it. I have very specific requirements for a gym (must have a pool and must be open until at least 11 pm) that ruled out everything but Lifetime and Fitness Connection, and I wasn't entirely sure I would feel comfortable at that Fitness Connection late at night.

I believe Planet Fitness is opening a new location at Sunset Oaks and Holly Springs Rd.
