I wasn't surprised which is sad!

Bernie Rayno says that forecasting snow in NC is almost impossible, there's almost always warm air in the mix and no one knows how fast or even if the snow will cool it down enough to keep it all snow.

All I know is, if we're gonna get a ton of non-rain precipitation, I want it to be snow, not ice.

Actually, WRAL isn't even saying that! The 3-5 inch forecast is for the extreme NW part of the county. A majority of it is 1-3 inches.

Assume they are basically saying "13 inches equivelant". Meaning that if you take the 10:1 ration, it could be 1.3 inches of rain/sleet, or 13 inches of snow, or 3 inches of snow followed or preceded by an inch of rain.

I don't know this to be fact, but that is how I interpreted it. So, if you believe WRAL, then we can expect an inch of rain, give or take, and a couple/few inches of snow to fall, that may or may not stick.

Joe Bastardi: Historic winter storm for carolinas centered from upstate SC into the piedmont of NC and southern Va will be talked about for years, 2-3 feet mountains 1-2 feet around Winston Salem, Charlotte going to be a war zone with a pick your poison snow/sleet event IMO

Just read on Twitter- if WCPSS closes Monday (and since all the banked days was used for the hurricane)- next make up day is 1/18 (teacher workday for a long MLK weekend).
If it's a bad winter (more than a week of school)- we are looking at a Saturday and a short Spring Break.

While I do think the snow lovers are getting way too carried away with this storm, at this point it seems unlikely we aren't going to get at least some snow out of this. I'm personally rooting for none because I am scheduled to work this weekend but I am expecting and planning for at least a few inches on Sunday with some ice.

Snow first, then rain, then black ice. Two hour delay would be a dream.

I doubt anyone will see snow in Raleigh. It may fall briefly overnight but will be rain by the daylight hours.
