Assuming you drive, combining auto and home is always offered at a substantial savings. So far, I’ve gotten excellent pricing from State Farm in two different states where we have lived.

Acquaint yourself with the Consent To Rate form, something which is required by most insurance companies for a homeowner policy. This thread ...
//www.city-data.com/forum/ralei...rate-form.html
... is a good place to start.

Some homeowners (including me) choke on this form.

A few insurers, Amica for instance, do not require signing that form. If this matters to you be sure to ask before buying a policy.

I don't think this is true.

Consent to rate isn't a big deal in my opinion, now that I've learned more about it.

This much is true: I switched from State Farm to Amica three years ago when CTR became an issue. I am still insured by Amica. They have never asked me to sign a CTR.

That doesn't mean they don't do it - they're required by law to do when they raise your insurance over a certain limit. It may not have happened yet, but it will.

I had Amica but they will cancel your policy if you have 2 or more claims, which we did.

I now have NC Farm Bureau and they ended up paying for Hurricane Florence repairs. They were one of the first insurance companies to pay and covered more than we expected!

My homeowners insurance is no where near the point where Amica will need to have me sign a CTR. I'm sure it could happen at some point, but given the difference between the two numbers it won't be anytime soon.
