Has anyone had any experiences using a mobile auto mechanic that comes to work on your car where the car is rather than taking the car to a shop? There are a few with actual websites and then there are what seems like a whole bunch of them listed on Craigslist. Yourmechanic is one too.
I am considering having several things done and wanted to give this a try but thought I would see if anyone had any info - good or bad.
The last time I took my car in to get repaired, I left determined to try one of these mobile mechanics the next time I had a need for something to get done. One of the reasons - among many - is that you can supply the parts if you wish so that cuts the cost way way down. If you compare the parts price on a shop bill to what you can buy the same (or better) parts for at an auto parts store - it is totally insane.
I wouldn't use a mobile mechanic for anything that requires lifting the car off the ground, unless I was very confident they were stacked with insurance.
Mechanics, mobile or not, usually won't (and shouldn't) warranty parts that you buy on your own. If you don't want a warranty, then go for it if you can find someone you trust to do it.
