Ok I am done with my "fescue" yard - in reality at this time it is about 25% fescue / 50% random weeds / 25% bare. A neighbor passed by yesterday and got chatting and said they had planted zoysia plugs and after a few years (he said around 3) they have overtaken the fescue and covered the yard. This is the path I want to go. I don't want to spend a fortune on sod, this seems a good compromise that will over time get rid of the mess I have.

So question is where in the Triangle can I buy good Zoysia plugs? And any suggestions on density to plant them?

Buy turf.
And a good straight blade spade shovel and a good machete.
Stir in some elbow grease.

Et voila:
Zoysia plugins!

You can buy sod and cut it into plugs:

Some zoysia is shade tolerant.

Planting plugs is a LOT of work.

You'll probably have to order them off the net.

Order for delivery.

But, I think the species of Zoysia is an important decision.
Mine is coarse, and there are much finer blades available.
