I feel like almost every night this week the news was reporting a new shooting or stabbing. I'm admittedly not overly familiar with Durham, but is this typical, or just a rough week?

Couple stabbings:

Around here, people are more concerned about the Southpoint mall stabbing and want more information as they all shop there.

Durham homicides have fluctuated from a high of 35 in 2005 to a low of 13 in 2006. (Numbers for years before 2003 aren't immediately at hand.) I wouldn't get excited about current numbers unless they're headed for 40 or beyond on a full-year basis. Anything less than that could be just random fluctuations like we've always seen.

I'm pretty consistent about watching the news - last week just seemed crazy. Maybe I was just more conscious of it.

I don't head over to Durham often, but I'm sure it's like everywhere else. There are good areas, and there are areas you stay away from.

Weather was nice a few days ago, nice weather means more murders.

Are these shootings/stabbing occurring in the same area of Durham or are there specific submarkets where it happens more frequently than others.

Just go here and type Durham, NC in the search bar. The area shaded in red should give you a pretty good idea where the high crime areas are. Justice Map: Visualize race and income data in your community
