Only the National Weather Service can confirm a tornado by looking at the damages and they said multiple times that won't happen quickly as they are busy all across the south. This system started in Texas.

Straight line winds can do as much or more damage as a tornado. Just not as fancy sounding.

"Tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in Smithfield in Johnston County as well as in the Whitecross area in Orange County."

They were confirmed. Seriously, what is the argument about? Not trying to sound fancy, trying to keep people updated. Sheesh.

There's no argument (at least by me) - I'm sure there was a tornado or more than one. I was merely reiterating what the meteorologists were saying today. Just because the posted graphics don't show a tornado doesn't mean it didn't happen.

No argument here either - all I said was WRAL was reporting on that graphic that there wasn't a confirmed tornado in Orange County. Which is probably true, it hasn't been officially confirmed yet. Not sure why they're showing the others though, maybe it was just a mistake.

The other person was trying to tell me that the graphic showed a reported tornado in Orange - that's why I was confused, cause it doesn't.

Sometimes the worst calamities remind you to be grateful. We are so lucky that our family and all of our neighbors are safe after a Tornado hit our neighborhood.
The Orange Grove Volunteer Fire Department showed up fast. They checked all of our houses for safety, addressed a gas leak, and then cleared our road enough for emergency vehicles to get in and out. Our neighbors across the road at Sturdivant Farms brought over a skid steer and helped clear the road.
Our house has probably a hundred trees down. Our bridge is destroyed. Our HVAC is out. But we’re holding strong compared to our five neighbors who had significant damage. We’ve got one of their families staying with us tonight.
Thanks for life! Thanks for first responders! Thanks for good neighbors!!

No worries about that, the local news stations go above and beyond
keeping people updated... way too much sometimes!
