Looking for a local, trusted BMW mechanic in the area (Cary/Apex/Raleigh/Durham). BMW stealership prices for maintenance and repairs are outrageous...

Shade Tree was the most recommended when I asked around. I have not been there yet.

There is a very strong contingent of BMW indy mechanics in the area, so you'll have your pick:

Chris Gerber over at G3 Automotive Solutions
Shade Tree
Bimmer Performance Center
Weaver Motorsports

If you are just looking for typical maintenance repair, start with the first two. If you are after high-end tuning, serious upgrades, I would start with BPC, but you'll pay for that expertise.

The local BMWCCA chapter is very active in the area, whether that be HPDE, racing, touring, etc.

I trust Tolga and the team there for quality work and white gloved stewardship of a BMW, beyond the poor service I got for my in and then out of warranty vehicle at the dealership.

I've taken my M3s to Import Motor Werks for the last 12 years and have been very satisfied with them. They have free loaners, although they are usually 3-series with 100K+ miles on them. They are located near the corner of Cary Parkway and Old Apex.

When I had my MINI I used to go this Precision Autowerks Precision Autowerks . They work on BMW and all the Euro makes. I felt like he was honest and would be capable of keeping a car in 100% tip top shape with full boat service if you wanted to but also was more than willing to prioritize and suggest what need to be done now, in the most economic way to keep your car safe and running.

I have gone to BPC and they are great and support the local CCA chapter events. They are a full speed shop but also will handle the regular stuff as well.

We've taken ours to Shade Tree (it's been a few years though) and were happy with the service.

I second this. They are terrific.

I've used both Import Motor Werks and BPC. I found the former more reasonably priced.
