Looking forward to seeing #30 raised to the rafters. Some will disagree but he's earned it, he's a big part of why this franchise won the Cup in 2006 and went on that playoff run in 2009. It's unfortunate those were the only two playoff appearances in his career but thats not his fault.
His lifetime NHL save percentage is .908. To put things in perspective, the much acclaimed Brodeur finished with .910 and the equally acclaimed Roy had .912. When you consider that Ward played after the NHL had loosened up the game, that's a very good outcome.
Season-by-season, Ward peaked in 2011 with .923 over 74 games. Some years, .923 is good enough to be in Vezina contention. That season the D in front of Ward was Rodney, Allen, Joslin, Babchuk, Harrison, White, Gleason, McBain, Pitkanen, and Corvo. Only 3 of those guys would have played on a top-tier team.

Did Maurice wear out Ward that season? Maybe.
If not, piling on 68 games the next year was no favor to Wardo.
I assume the final call on whether 30 is retired or not lands on Waddell and Dundon, both of whom were willing to let Ward walk. Waddell would have seen Ward play while Waddell was in Atlanta, though, when Ward was putting up better numbers.
