I can't imagine anyone commuting from Knightdale to RTP, so I gotta assume most transplants there are not.
I think a fair amount commute to DTR. I have a few neighbors that are retired state employees and know at least a couple that work at Wakemed. My wife used to work in Downtown Raleigh and I was shocked at how many of her co-workers commuted to Smithfield, but the traffic at the 70 exit on I40 tells me that its pretty common.

540 does have exits all along its route. People do work other places than RTP, especially right around the airport. Even RTP is a big place...
I pick up my grandson 3 days a week in Knightdale via 64 from Triangle Town Center. Cannot use freeways because of bad depth perception despite 20/20 vision.

Off rush about 45 minutes.

I'm relocating to 5401 North end of this year. Before putting my money down I sampled the drive-time to RTP at various, and likely times when I'd be heading into the office. Based on what I learned, if I'm not out the door by 7:00 AM I'll work remotely until 9:00 AM and then head over. At 7:00 AM I was able to make it in 25 minutes, but by 7:30 AM that was already up to 45 minutes and after 8:00 AM I'm figuring it would take me about an hour (didn't try that one, but it was predictable).
Until they complete 540, as they add more new development in Eastern Wake County, that commute is just going to bog down to where it doesn't make sense.
I work off of Harrison in Cary and live in Garner on Timber. Takes me about 30 mins of drive time in peak rush hour. For a decade and a half I worked off of Davis Drive in RTP and that was tough. Was any where from 45 to an hour drive time. Its probably only 8 more miles down the road but could add half an hour to the drive. Traffic starts backing up around Harrison through 540 on I40. So glad I dont drive all the way out there and bail just at the start every morning.
Hoping you're CapitalBLVD/Saturnfan and are back and doing well.
Thanks
