actual in-the-city-limits of Raleigh will cost you.
time and money. if you have the money and
do not mind the 3-hour-round-trip
there are several options.

Agree with the previous posters regarding more specifics to be most helpful, but I have run across a number of active military Officers who have lived with their families in the University Park neighborhood of Raleigh. One I recall was a JAG Captain, another other a Lt. Col. with the 82nd, and I also met at least one associated with the Special Forces (no specifics). I don’t believe any of them are still in the neighborhood given the nature of the job. The area seems to be welcoming to military and dependents. As it should.

That commute will suck, definitely will get old, really fast. You guys should at least consider FV and Holly Springs if you don't want to just live in Fayetteville.

.
Is there a particular reason why you guys want to live with in Raleigh City Limits, just feel like that commute will get irritating fast.

My pops lived in Lochmere and made the Ft. Bragg commute every day for about 20 years. Its doable, although probably not ideal. Anyway- its right on US1 which would probably be what I was looking for if I were you. Either that or right off the new toll road.

why Raleigh vs other Wake County (or Johnston perhaps) places that are significantly closer?

Today, I'd be interesting in knowing what are the important things you CAN get in Raleigh proper that you're not getting in closer places.

Hmmmm, I lived in University park for 7 years and never met any active duty stationed at Ft. Bragg.

I think you need to look around Tryon Rd or Rock Quarry Rd. I don't know enough to be specific. But those are convenient to Raleigh amenities.

You should consider Fuquay Varina. There are active duty and retired military in Fuquay. I live in Fuquay in Wake County and we are about 50 minutes from Bragg. However, Fuquay is positioned only a few minutes from parts of Raleigh, Apex and Holly Springs. There is a lot to consider when choosing where to live, so more information would be helpful. A lot of military do live in the Southern pines area, but it is a lot different than the Raleigh area. I grew up itherr myself. Feel free to message me with specific questions

If your husband is a civilian DoD or other Fed employee, he might be able to work from home two or more days a week (depending on his area). So that's something to consider. Sanford might be worth a look, just for its location. It's roughly equidistant to Greensboro, The Triangle, and Southern Pines and Fayetteville

A distant cousin of mine was a JAG at Bragg and lived in Fuquay.

While Fuquay-Varina is definitely a small town compared to Raleigh, it does have a cute downtown (two, in fact!) and is part of the same Wake County school district as Raleigh.
