There was a pretty heated discussion about a teen who drove through my neighborhood with bass so loud it shook everyone’s houses. Otherwise, I’ve basically learned it’s a crime to walk through my neighborhood without exercise clothes on.

I get the Nextdoor daily digest (or whatever they call it). I have to think twice, three times if I want to answer because then I'll get notifications for every reply on the thread.
Oh, and it was an 'eerie' noise over in my Nextdoor area. Pick up after your pets, keep them on a leash, and they sure do know how to get out of the yard.
And when someone asks for a handyman, several 'please hire my husband' for any job. I would prefer it if the husband/handyman answered for himself. Not sure if he's not into technology or just drunk/incapacitated at home and she wants him out earning a buck or two.
Clearly this is cause Chapel Hill is at a higher level than the rest of the Triangle
Well you did ask if NextDoor was like what you see — with the hyper-paranoid crime posts and neighbors bickering — everywhere. I haven't seen a lot of that on the Chapel Hill Carrboro NextDoor, but I also don't look at it beyond a quick glance a couple of times a week. Mostly it seems fairly useful over here on this side of the Triangle.
PLUS I use NextDoor often, and I think it’s very good for recommendations, a good reason to use it.
PLUS Lots of lost pets, some success stories (a good thing), others unknown.
NEGATIVE But like any online resource, there will be whiners and people who like to complain about crime, kids, speeders, dogs pooping in neighbors yards, etc. - I ignore the exaggerations and hyperbole for the most part.
NEUTRAL I’ve sold a few things on NextDoor classifieds, but only at ridiculously low prices. You’re better off selling items of value in eBay (despite the fees) in my experience for traffic and prices.
It’s a good way to get rid of stuff for free. I put some stuff out last year. No takers. Put it on ND and gone within hours. DH very happy he didn’t have to haul to dump.
Note: some of the stuff is CRAZY and again I wonder if it’s for real. As in someone offered a used toilet wand on my ND site the other day. Makes you realize how many hoarders there are out there.
