I remember last year was horrible mosquito-wise. This year seems to be the opposite. I noticed two of my adjacent neighbors got sprayed by those guys with the leaf-blower looking things. Less mosquitoes in general, or is their spraying affecting my yard too?

Definitely.
This past winter was very mild and the rain so far has created ideal conditions for mosquitoes.
It's so odd that it's dependent on where you live. We lived in N Raleigh off Six Forks in a townhouse. Not one mosquito (though the no see ums were horrible). Then we moved to a house off from Falls of Neuse and the mosquitoes were horrible. Thankfully I wasn't mosquito bait, so they didn't bother me, but my husband was eaten up. Now we live right next to a marsh with a pond in the wooded area of our back yard and we don't have any mosquitoes at all. I will say we have a very large swallow and bat presence, so that could make a difference, too.
Ironically DH and I were enjoying the cooler weather tonight with a glass of wine and binoculars to view our baby bluebirds. We talked about how few mosquitoes we have this year.
If your neighbors are getting sprayed it will affect your yard. When I had neighbors that sprayed we never had them. But DD gets bitten like crazy and this year has been the usual.
I think it is worse this year so I definitely think with your neighbors spraying you are seeing a reduction because of this.
I finally bought a large umbrella net to go over my lounge chairs and it has been heaven to be able to lay outside and not have to worry about any mosquitos!
Depends on your blood type, skeeters love them sweet O+, and O-, B+, A+ next and B -, A - not so much. I'm A- and rarely get bit, I've seen them land on me and leave, lol... especially if I've been drinking. But my wife and kids? All O's and get eaten alive.
