Greek Fiesta's gyro is horrible! Very greasy, and they also just reheat presliced meat on a grill. Their pita bread is also lacking. I like Gussy's best of the ones I've had here, they slice the meat off that giant chunk on a spit as the orders come in. You can also get fries inside your gyro, which is how I had them in Turkey and they're delicious like that, imo.

When I went to Greece in the navy, the gyro stands everywhere were sooo good that we didn't even get hungry enough to go to a real restaurant. I haven't had any that were that good since.

My wife likes falafel in her wraps instead of lamb (which when I write it out actually kinda creeps me out to eat lamb...they are so cute).

Ha ha! My best friend is Greek and her grandmother was an AMAZING cook. Not just Greek food, everything. She asked me to come over once for Greek Easter and I said "I am NOT eating lamb!" she said don't worry we aren't having it this year LOL.

I haven't found real-deal gyro since La Shish in Cary closed. Most places have what I call "diner gyro" (I'm from NJ), which is flat even strips like you find in the gyro kits at Trader Joe's. That's not real-deal gyro.

Yes maybe...like I said hard to describe. All I know is every Mediterranean place we have gone to, we did not enjoy. But we really like Greek food. So we only stick to that.

When I want the best Greek food, I go to yia-yia’s house

But yia-yia doesn’t make gyros. And gyros are way down in my list of favorite Greek foods. I’d much rather have her pastitsio.

A lot of the Mediterranean restaurants here are more middle Eastern. I like that food, but not for gyros. I usually order the kofta wraps instead. Kofta is their specialty.

I’ve had good pastitsio at Greek festivals, but not at a restaurant. Gotta learn that recipe...
