I ended up just shy of 3/4" of rain at my house with a max wind speed of 16mph. Very little debris and leaves on the ground which typical for a gentle rain. At least it's nice not to have a lot of clean up.
That doesn't really make sense - so if a hurricane tracked inland they wouldn't show any warnings?
Not on the NHC coastal maps. Inland watches and warnings are managed by the local NWS offices. You can see yesterday's briefing from NWS Raleigh showing Wake in a tropical storm warning.

1.5" rain at my house in north Raleigh. Power never blinked. Crabtree Creek at the mall rose to only 6.5 feet... about what it does after a routine summer thunderstorm.
True, we are blaming Wake Co schools, but they do have to listen and do things accordingly if there's a Tropical Storm WARNING.
Anyone who follows those private meteorologists on Facebook/Twitter or even American WX, no one them forecasted tropical storm conditions this far inland.
WRAL's graphics never showed us having TS force winds. WCPSS needs to do better. A lot better. Based on every available forecast there was no reason we couldn't have an early release yesterday. I'll give them a pass for today because the available forecast yesterday afternoon made it look like it would rainy and windy this morning. That had changed by last night. Cardinal Gibbons was on a delay today and I bet they are doing a happy dance (and they don't have to make up days if they don't want to, either). Gibbons draw from a far wider area than WCPSS does and everyone has to drive.
OBX taking a beating. Tough being in between the sound and the ocean.
I wish I could just cancel things at work when there's a minute risk level. That'd be pretty sweet.
Just kidding - I really don't blame them. No matter what decision they make, people will complain. As mentioned above, this isn't on WCPSS, it's on NWS. There is no way you can have a tropical storm warning and have kids go to school.
That being said, I'm not sure there would have been school if there wasn't a warning.
Yeah that wind is whipping up the sound and sending it into Ocracoke and Hatteras for sure. Washing away cars, etc.
