I have a pre-hung wooden French door unit and was wondering if it is possible to replace the door slabs with wooden clad slabs without installing a new pre-hung unit. My existing doors are weathered from the sun but the frame is in good condition.

You can buy new door slabs at a full service lumber yard like Capital City or Stock, and get a good carpenter to install them.
A very good carpenter, who does fine trim or builds and installs cabinets. Not a framer.

I've been researching this same topic for over a year. What i've been hearing from construction folks is that 'pre-hung' will fit the door more snugly and lesson the chance for gaps/air leaks. For my front door, I've decided to replace the frame as well as door, partly because the frame is 20 years old and I have issues with air leaks to begin with. Let us know what you decide; i'm curious as well.
