My lease is coming up on the expiration date, and I've been looking around the `intrawebs' to see what sorts of deals are available - a prime source is https://forum.leasehackr.com/. They've listed many great deals available on all types of cars - mostly from NY/NJ area and/or California - but when I take those and try to work with NC dealerships to get even in the same neighborhood, so far met with deafening silence. Does NC - either based on state regulation or some other factor - pretty much not do decent pricing on autos relative to other states, almost to the point where it's worth it savings-wise for consumers to fly up to NYC, lease a car there, and drive it back down?

If you've worked with local dealers for new car leasing where they're pretty open to doing good deals - i.e. where you know all the factors like incentives available, money factor #s, Residual Value for the car- please reference in this thread?

I think the first question to be sure of is whether you'd owe the HUT on the vehicle here.

Are you actually going to the dealership or trying to get these deals over email? I have had very little luck with emailing dealers other than them trying to get you into the store to work their magic.

Leasehackr is a great resource. I have found pricing in NC not as competitive as other regions but with some work have gotten NC dealers to be competitive. Last year, I leased my wife's QX60 through one of the leasehackr brokers. They were able to deliver the vehicle to my mom's house in MD and I drove it home. Well worth the hassle to save $4k over the best deal I could source locally. My Volvo S90 lease at the end of 2017 was getting a NC non-triangle dealer to match an out of state dealer's price. I was able to work out decent local pricing on my Tundra lease in Oct 2018 through Fred Anderson. There is a broker in the PHL area who has amazing pricing on Toyota's. Pricing fell a bit throughout the winter on the Tundra, so if I'd waited I could have leased from him for $295/mth instead of the $315 I paid locally - probably not worth it in that case.

NC is very lease friendly from a tax perspective. You only pay 3% on the monthly payment (as opposed to 3% on the entire sales price). Still owe property taxes on the vehicle though. I had some delays getting g my wife's qx60 titled right in NC, but as it's a 39 month lease, that delay will save me from paying the 4th year of registration.

You have to pay property tax on a lease that you don't own. It will never be an asset or have value that you could leverage or benefit from.

And they still make you pay property tax?

I wonder if you rented a car from Hertz on a monthly basis, say for 6,9,or 12 months if you'd have to pay property tax.

Maybe property tax isn't the perfect name for vehicle-based fees, but NC does have high caliber roads compared to most states.

NC (especially the Triangle) rarely has any deals on cars. Used cars are typically priced higher than other markets. You need to go out of state if you want a deal.

I'm not sure about leased cars, but try the Atlanta market which isn't that far away from Raleigh. My coworker just bought a brand new Ford F150 in Atlanta for the same price as used F150's were selling for in Raleigh. They did everything online and then he drove his trade-in to Atlanta to pick up his new truck.

They were leasing loaded Chevy pickups in Michigan last year for $119 mo. Tried to lease one while there but was told promotions were based on state on drivers license. I don't know if other car companies have same policy. A friend bought a new truck online from Merchant Chevrolet in Charleston SC and got a great deal.

I just leased a 2020 Kia in Northern Virginia and got a fantastic deal. Of course, it doesn't hurt that my family has bought 7 cars from this particular dealer (3 of them on the same day).
