I'm intrigued by the stuffed turkey leg.

I've had Crack'n Cheese last year and it was delicious. I often find the turkey legs to be under-cooked. Maybe if it's "stuffed" that means more of the inside-meat will have been taken out and what's left will have been cooked more thoroughly.

Campfire on a Stick will 100% for sure be on my menu next week.

Don't go to the fair on a Saturday or Sunday. That would be my #1 priority if I were you. We always go on a weekday and start about 9 am. So much better with the crowds when kids are in school and people are working.

Sunday morning is my favorite time to go, but I usually go with my family.

I would allow yourself PLENTY of time to get there, unless you're good with missing whoever is opening.

They don't heavily advertise it, but there is a way to get in for free, if you go at lunch and then leave before 1:30PM.

https://ncstatefair.org/2019/Visitor/Tickets.htm
How it works:
  • Visit Gate 9 off Trinity Road, or Gate 1 off Hillsborough Street ONLY after 11:30 a.m. on weekdays. This offer is not valid at other gates or on weekends.
  • Purchase a lunch card at the gate for $10 with cash (cash sales only).
  • Buy your lunch from the many fair food vendors on site. Fair food vendors take cash. ATMS are available inside the fairgrounds.
  • Return the lunch card by 1:30 p.m. to the same gate you entered on the same day purchased the card for a full $10 cash refund.
  • If you leave later than 1:30 p.m., then you forfeit your $10. The card is good only on the day purchased. This program is only for adult admission.

Ugh, I can't do Sunday mornings this year. What are other good days to maybe attempt going to the fair? (outside of normal work hours)

My favorite food is ice cream from the NCSU Food Science Department. In previous years there building is not with the other food vendors and is over by the bunny barn. I know I can get the ice cream at Harris Teeter now, but the food memory is going to the State Fair and getting it there.

when we went around 2PM on ANY weekday, no parking problems.
our advice: pick your weekday and "at the gate" by 2PM.

Monday or Tuesday.

I assume they still do Can Thursday NEXT week? Definitely don't go then. Don't go Friday and don't get near there on Saturday at all.
