Hi,
We are planning to rent and then buy a home near Kitts Creek - Morrisville neighbor and we came to know that it has been assigned to "Park Side Elementary School". we know we are not buying a seat in the school but want to know the experience or opinion about below two questions.

1. Looks Park Side Elementary school is just built-in 2018-2019 and does not any data to evaluate student progress and not any data to compare reading/math/science evaluation data

2. It is "Year Around School" and we never ever enrolled our child in "Year around school" so just want to understand pros and cons like in summer everyone is on break and doing activities and she will not get time to those summer classes..or if both are doing the job then? and many other pros or cons that we are not aware of or should not have an idea.

3. How difficult to move from base school to another school like "Traditional school" or "Charter" or "Magnet" in this area?

Thanks a lot in advance for your guidance as we haven't thought about these complexities?

1) That school will be fine. if you want to know how it will perform look at the ratings for Cedar Fork Elementary where most of those kids used to go.

2)If you want to take a long summer vacation, don't plan on that either. Year round schools are 9 weeks in and 3 weeks out although there is one track that's slightly different. School actually starts the second week in July for tracks 1-3 and the beginning of August for track 4.

3) You have almost zero chance of getting into your traditional option, as Cedar Fork is capped and the others in the area at capacity. Don't plan on that. If you want to take a long summer vacation, don't plan on that either. Year round schools are 9 weeks in and 3 weeks out although there is one track that's slightly different.

1. All the schools in that general area will have pretty good numbers. Testing proficiency is highly correlated with socioeconomic status and has little to do with how "good" a school is.

2. Some people love year-round. Look at the schedules for each of the tracks and see if it works for you. The upside is the ability to take vacations in the off season. The downside if you need childcare, is limited camps during the traditional year.

3. Each year-round school is supposed to have a traditional option which is not guaranteed. Charters are a public school but separate from WCPSS and have their own lottery system. Magnets are part of WCPSS and have an application process which starts in January. Magnets and charters have varying acceptance rates.

by "long vacation", the poster means "more than 3 weeks".

I’ve heard great things about Park Side Elementary.

It’s pretty difficult to get a seat at a magnet or charter school if you’re not applying in kindergarten, but sometimes space is available when people move and there are less applicants.

I am employed in a brand new school and the last school i worked in was brand new as well.

Data doesn't tell the whole story so don't worry about the lack of it.

At a new school the staff are all excited about creating the kind of environment they want to work in. The PTA is enthusiastic and there's lots of good energy.

no way of knowing if the staff is really any good in wake county, they shuffle bad principals around. make sure you google the principal and see what is said.

It would be unlikely that the school could be bad enough to do any real damage to your kids. As for your real estate investment, you can't really go wrong.

The district has a habbit of picking their best principals to open new schools. These principals them take some choice staff with them. I would not be worried. This is school in an area where people place a high priority on their kids education.

@twingles ... What is your opinion on getting a transfer from "Alston Ridge Elementary School" (Year around) to a traditional school? ..Which school we may get and chances of getting into traditional (considering base school is Alston Ridge Elementry School"
