Maybe this particular organization chapter is more aggressive about grandstanding in an event that has nothing to do with them? Garner and Wake Forest are the only two towns in the state that have felt the need to do this, unless something has changed very recently.
It's probably due to all the statue issues lately in our area. Those groups are probably a lot more riled up here than other parts of the state. Just a guess though.
The scv have marched in both parades consistently for over a decade they typically dress up as soldiers and might carry a banner with insignia and conf flag logo not a full flag
Like I get not liking the scv but to not acknowledge the far left showing up to protest and create a scene isn't what created the environment causing the cancel is a bit ridiculous.
For some people, having a “cause” gains them a brotherhood. Media attention gains them “importance”. Towns would like to ignore them but it’s a question of public safety. And it’s expensive to hire all the extra personnel, to put up barriers, etc. that fomenting attention entails. Better off to save the taxpayers dollars and the participants from potential danger and angst. This type stuff can be frightening to kids.

Exactly. I know it won't be a popular opinion, but the Sons of Confederate Veterans are not the ones in the wrong here. They have been part of the Wake Forest Christmas Parade for years. A left-wing group apparently called up and made threats because of the Sons of Confederate Veterans' participation, necessitating the cancellation.

At least that's how I understand it.
I suspect someone made that up. Most of the problems have been coming from more extreme disenfranchised groups who live elsewhere but like to go on fieldtrips to stir up the locals.
The sons of Confederate veterans and daughters of the confederacy participate in parades and in our culture in general, throughout nc and have for over a century.
The fact that some idiots call up and threaten to protest our state history and culture just shows their complete ignorance and hostility. How about we protest NY pizza in NY?
The Confederate groups that march in parades as they've always done are not the problem. The complainers are. If you want to make a counterpoint then make a group and march in the parade. Dont force the city to cancel it. What a lack of care for the kids.

"Groups that contact us about their plans to protest tend to follow our rules and regulations. We’re concerned about outside agitators that don’t notify us. Radicals don’t typically call ahead. These aren’t area residents we’re talking about. These are professional protesters who have no regard for the safety and well-being of others."
"Police had received credible information that protesters had grown from fewer than 10 to more than 200 in less than two days."
That says it all. This is what our small local towns are up against. Groups are busing in protesters and wreaking havoc. They don't live here. They don't shop here. They are not our neighbors. They stir up trouble, break a few windows, chat and wale, then take the bus back to their home city. They do a bang up fine job of turning us against one another when they don't even live here.
If you keep them in the parade one side flips out and buses in their protesters. You kick them out the other side flips out and buses in their protesters. . Either way the other 90% of us lose out debating about these stupid 10%. Eventually turning us against one another.. ...AND THEY DON'T EVEN LIVE HERE.

Exactly. And this is what happens when people/government/leadership continue to create an atmosphere of divisiveness rather than letting people feel as if we are one country. Like saying there are "very fine people on both sides."

It will continue to happen.
Yup. ...And the media keeps it frenzied and boiling. They play their roll in this as well.
