Recently got a letter but it's unclear and I will call the city. We have ours disconnected and don't want to reconnect just to test. How often is this?
If you recently received a letter regarding a water backflow compliance issue, please disregard this letter. It was sent out in error to accounts with backflow assemblies rather than its intended audience: non-compliant accounts. A corrected letter will be mailed at a later date to those accounts that may have a non-compliance issue. We apologize for the confusion this error may have caused.
For information about backflow compliance, visit our Cross Connection Control Program page.
... but I'm guessing you're possibly not in compliance if your backflow (valve) is disconnected?
It is normal in my neighborhood to disconnect the backflow device before we get freezing temperatures. Some recommend purging the remaining water in the sprinkler system.
The City of Raleigh requires all backflow devices to be tested every 3 years in order to make sure that they are working properly. This has nothing to do with dicconnecting during the winter and reconnecting in the spring.
They offer a list of local certified companies that can provide this test , and it usually costs around $ 75.00 or so. This may be what you are talking about.

Yes I get it tested. And you would think.the letter would say that. It just talked about non compliance. Raleigh letter was a mistake. As we know now.
