My Brother in Law called me early this morning from up North. He told me his brother (in the National Guard) was put on Alert this AM with the directive to "prepare for a 30 day minimum deployment by the end of this weekend".
Again, posters here can take that for what they want. I am not trying to scare anyone. Simply sharing first hand information.
I went shopping this morning for essential items for the kids with idea being something could be coming down the pike this weekend.
Well, that's not really first hand, but okay.
Keep in mind that in times of national emergency, the National Guard isn't just utilized for policing. They may be tasked with disinfecting, distributing food and supplies, assisting with medical logistics, etc.

Yes I don't clam to have any inside info on what he will be specifically doing.
Fine, second hand info. I simply meant it wasn't something like my brother's boss's wife whose sister works at Homeland Security.
I should have just left it as I originally had it, as "a family member" but then figured someone would say "your brother in laws brother isn't technically your family".
The National Guard has already been deployed in some places, like the outbreak in New Rochelle, NY (they're pretty much doing any of the tasks that hertfordshire listed like assisting with disinfecting)
First community-spread incident in Wilson. Now we're officially into mitigation instead of containment.
Honestly, I would be shocked if community spread wasn't happening for a while already. We just haven't had enough tests to test everybody who is showing symptoms.

A co-worker of mine's daughter is basically having to jump through hoops right now just to get tested. They wanted to test her for everything else under the sun before finally agreeing to test for C19, despite her having all the symptoms of C19. Her mom was told it'll be a 4 day turnaround for her to know now if she has it and her family is now quarantined for that time until they know.
The whole testing process is abysmal and I agree that the test counts we see in reports are definitely not reflective at all of what's really out there. They're throwing up absurd roadblocks so that it doesn't look worse than it really is.
