Originally from the NW - lived in DFW for 13 years and now the Triangle for close to 5 years. I much prefer the Triangle. There is actual terrain that is not a concrete overpass. There is green throughout the year. You can spend much more time outdoors throughout the year in the Triangle. DFW just gets too hot to spend much time outside during the summer months. It can be hot here , but not Texas hot!

When you were in DFW did you think that traffic was bad? And if I would be interested in doing hikes etc what area would you recommend for that?

Traffic is much worse in the DFW area. They do have HOV lanes, but you will see lots of single passenger vehicles in them. They also now have managed toll lanes in certain areas and of course plain old toll roads. As far as outdoor activities such as hiking - you have to drive out to find decent hikes, where as here in the triangle you have places like Umstead for in town hiking or Crabtree for in town mountain biking. Outdoor activities are much more convenient here in the Triangle. Both places do have decent greenways, but if you want something other than a paved path then you have to travel further in DFW.
One thing I will say is if you are in to riding dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, or any sort of atv, then the DFW area definitely has more options over the Triangle and NC in general. Another, if you are into wakeboard parks, I have not seen anything in NC like they have in the DFW area.

Sorry for the late responses I was down with the flu last week lol. Have you been in both areas? If so do you recommend one over the other?
I just noted you'd also posted in the DFW Forum. I've been to the airport.
DFW is huge compared to Raleigh.
I've been told by folks who've recently lived there that DFW is not as welcoming, and my experience with Texans is they tend towards feeling superior because of Texas (or at least, DFW & Austin)
