Where do you find out about summer camps? (Raleigh, Durham: chapel, how much)

I'm wondering how folks find out about summer camps for kids in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. Newspaper ads? Websites? Word of mouth? I just stumbled on a fencing camp through a magazine ad. I wish there were a more systematic way to find them.

Do camps advertise on bulletin boards anywhere? If so where are the good ones to look at?

I signed my son up in Raleigh, but I was able to google summer camps raleigh and I had several choices come up. Also Carolina Parent puts out a list of summer camps. You can check their website.

Look at Carolina Parent. There are many camps in the CH/Durham area.

1. Many of the dance schools in the yellow pages have one. Chapel Hill Ballet, Barriskill....
2. Most of the private swim clubs. Meadowmont, Tennis Club
3. YMCA's have them
4. The carrboro art center and the durham arts council
5. The bowling ally in durham
6. Some of the private schools like Durham Academy, Friends school...
7. Pottery studios
8. Museum of life and science
9. Duke I believe offers some athletic programs
10. Chapel Hill planetarium
11. Movie Makers
12. Chapel Hill public schools has summer camps
13. CH dept of recreation, Carrboro dept of recreation

The City of Raleigh puts out a publication that lists ALL their camps so perhaps Chapel Hill or Durham does the same?

Also, Carolina Parent (which you can pick up in most any grocery store) has a list.

I just love this community! City-Data folks are great.

I've signed my youngster up for fencing camp at DA and we're looking at some of the others. I can't get over how much there is to choose from. I'm glad we left sleepy Alamogordo, NM and moved to Durham. So very glad...
