If I sell a car privately right now, how do I turn in or transfer the plates? DMV is closed, right?

AND how do I get the title notarized? The banks are closed and I suspect the notaries at the UPS stores have suspended services.

Not all DMV offices are closed:

"For the health and safety of our customers and employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, some N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles driver license offices have closed.

The open offices have transitioned to handle appointment-only visits and will limit the number of customers allowed inside at the same time, depending on the office size.

Before visiting an office, please check to see if it is open and what its operating hours are."

You can find out which offices are open here: https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/offices-se...v-offices.aspx

2 Raleigh offices are open.

DMV offices offer notary services.

You can mail the plates.

I see no reason why UPS Store wouldn't be doing notary services. No more risky than anything else that happens in a UPS Store. Call them and ask - they're open.

Bank branches have notaries that are still notarizing. I would call and schedule a few minutes (Versus walk in) given current situation.

Thanks everyone. Any suggestions on how to handle test drives? We have no N95 masks, only cloth.

Take a photo of their license, and don't go with them if you're concerned about it.

My husband and I need our signatures notarized. Our local bank told us to go through the Drive thru lane at an approximate date and time. Back and forth through the vacuum tube went documents, IDs...we both looked into the camera. Odd, but we accomplished it in pretty quick time.

There are mobile notaries as well - as on your next door site.

As we always do. We used to meet at our home, but I think we'll adjust that to meet in a public place this time.

I guess that's always a good idea. I don't know why Covid would change that though, it's not like they're coming inside your house.
