I'm totally redoing my back yard (N Durham). I need about 1-1.5 dump truck loads of top soil for seeding (fescue). I'm essentially raising the level of my lawn by about 8 inches.

Does anyone have any suggestions for top soil? Ideally, I'd like to find some free dirt, but don't mind paying a reasonable price. I don't believe I need some of the expensive screened stuff.

Thanks!

I found just driving around town signs that say free dirt.. however haven't seen them lately. You can also call places like mulch masters. I think that is where I got mine. I believe they have 2 types. One topsoil and the other what you are talking about. I'd give them a try. They also might be able to refer you.

You should do a search on craig's list as well. I always see dump trucks of dirt for sale there. I would be a little leary of anybody giving it away for free. Especially if they are hauling it to you in light of gas prices.

I think that usually when it is free, you have to get it yourself
