Anyone know a mechanic in Cary open on Sundays that does good work at a fair price? Went to Pep Boys today on Cary Parkway across from Park West for an oil change (synthetic) and a recharge of my AC. The cost was $400!! I'm so mad I could spit. 400 *%(&@! dollars!!!! That is highway robbery. I'll never go to them again.

What was the breakdown on that $400?

The invoice is in my car. If I recall, 75 for oil change, 50 for recharge 150 for vacuum and AC inspection. The rest presumably labor and taxes.

That seems impossible - I'd be curious what the invoice says. What type of car?

Unfortunately I don't have anywhere to recommend that's open on Sunday.

Communicate with the manager here:

Consider reading reviews for any place of business BEFORE you spend?

Also, I always ask any repair place whether it is home repair (HVAC?) or car repair if their repair staff are incentivized (on commission to upsell)!

I've been to them before. They seemed reasonable. I wasn't prepared for this.

- Always get the estimate of cost upfront in the future and get quotes from 3 different shops before committing to doing the work.

- Don't go to a chain if you can help it. There are many independent shops

- Do a search here on C-D. If you search "honest mechanics" that should bring up a few threads from the past.

Yea you got ripped off big time. No one to blame but yourself. Like other says ask for quote/estimate before. I am assuming your not 18 and the first time ever to a mechanic.

Firestone is open on Sunday's.....their warranty is honored at any Firestone store in the USA. They are a full service repair shop.

I hit one of those truck tire treads on I-40 driving to TN and it knocked the steering alignment out. Went to a Firestone at my destination...on a Sunday in fact, and they had all the records for my car from the Raleigh store that does my tire and alignment work. In regards to AC repairs, I do my own and save a ton of $$.
