Hey guys. Looking for a decent place to camp with my wife. We are in the Triangle area, so the closer the better, but open to anywhere in NC really.
We are not super campers or anything, especially my wife, so something more along the lines of a campground or at least a place specifically set up for camping is ideal.
No need for hookups. A tent only place is fine.
Somewhere safe, ideally somewhere with a lot of space between sites and a lot of wooded areas.
Julian Price Campground is a great place for the casual camper. Beautiful area with a gorgeous lake and hiking trails, beautiful views. Not sure how crowded it would be this time of year.
Hyco Lake and Mayo Lake are nearby and have tent camping. I hear good things about Jordan Lake and Falls Lake for camping, too. If you want to venture, Goose Creek State Park in Washington NC is great.
I camp in a camper van, but also like some space between sites and a lot of trees. So far this year I've stayed at Jordan Lake and Falls Lake in February (bit chilly, brr). In a few weeks I'll be headed to Morrow Mountain and then in July Medoc Mountain. Eventually I'm going to stay at all the NC State Parks. Anyhow, I really don't think you can go wrong at any of the state parks - since it sounds like you want a close to home getaway, Falls Lake would be a nice choice. You book NC State Parks through the ReserveAmerica website, and it's super easy to see what's available when.
That was the first place we camped in NC with our one year old --- 1989 !
