The Daniels family also asked to take down Josephus Daniels statue in Nash Square.

Given his history, this is a no-brainer. Should have been done long ago.

I think it's stupid, rushed, and unnecessary to change the name as it is commonly known by. Drop all references to Josephus, but as noted in the link, the family overall has done many great things for Raleigh.

Both my kids went through there, I've been all over the campus many times, never saw Josephus' name anywhere. Doesn't mean it isn't somewhere there, but it's certainly not obvious/promoted. It's not been on WCPSS website for as long as I can remember.

Alas, it is what it is. It's not like anyone cared a month ago, and not like they will 5 years from now.

I don’t like it either. I think all this name changing should to be thought through a little better.

I’m sure it will continue to be an excellent school without the Daniels name.

Anyone remotely familiar with the current BOE must know they salivated at the idea of accomplishing this. That said, I like the new name, and I guess WCPSS policy of naming schools after places and not people will probably prove to be wise. I expect Jefferson Elementary which I attended on LI to get picketed soon enough.
