We'll cast our first US vote in the upcoming election (newish US Citizens ). We received a pamplet in the mail explaining the voting procudures, but I cant find it. We are registered to vote and know our polling place, but we'd like to know what to expect/how things work when we get there. Any insight?!

TIA

For all the info you could ever want to read - check out the Wake County Board of Elections website:

I don't really see a description of the process on the site, so I'll describe how it works at my polling place.

When you get there you will stand in line according to your last name. When you get to the front of the line you will give your full name and address and they will look you up in the book and give you a piece of paper. You will probably have to sign the book and also the piece of paper. You then move to another person at the same table, and exchange your piece of paper for a ballot. You take the ballot to a small cubby which is set up for "privacy." In my polling place, a fire station, when it gets crowded people just perch on the fire trucks or the floor and fill out their ballot with an ink pen. You then take the ballot to a little machine with an attendant, feed it in, and get an "I voted" sticker from the attendant.

Thank you both!

I was able to download the pamphlet (Voter Guide) from the NC Board of Elections site (got the link through Wakegov link provided above). That showed the machines, how they work etc. Couple that with the description above and I think Im all set.

I can always ask for help Its just that I wanted to know what to expect and not look like a complete idiot.

Thanks!

Note that you can vote EARLY by going to designated early-voting sites. I recommend this, as it's much less crowded than on actual Election Day--so if you're worried about looking ignorant or having questions, this is a great way to do your "virgin voting" I went directly to the County Board of Elections downtown, and there were tons of volunteers around to assist people. That one may not be convenient for you, but there are more and more early voting sites opening up.

Plus, the more people who vote early, the less the likelihood of long lines and problems for all around on May 6.
