Can anyone tell me about the drive in theatre in Henderson? We'd like to take the kids there since they've never been to one, but I don't know how early we need to be there, especially on a weekend when they're showing a movie for the first time. I know they say the gates open at 7.30, but what time should we go to get in line? I just don't want to get there and then have to drive back home because we can't get in. Any info is appreciated--thanks!

There was a nice write-up about the theatre in the N&O -

newsobserver.com | Out at the drive-in (http://www.newsobserver.com/442/story/1016149.html - broken link)

It doesn't sound like it fills up - "The theater, which opened in 1949, has spaces for 265 cars. A good night, Jim says, means 75 or 100 cars."

Sounds like a lot of fun for a family!

OMGreen NC grass I just drove away with the speaker still in the car window! ..not again! I did not know there was still a Drive In around period. Must be the shut in video world or something. Thanks for the post and don't forget to place the speaker back on the pole in its upright and locked position prior to driving away!

My daughter and I were just discussing this....the Cairo near Angier was the only other drive-in I knew that still stands(don't know about operating). This is GREAT...we will be getting our friends together and tail-gating as soon as we can...:-)

Neat! My wife and I had a great time dating at the Sunrise Drive in on Long Island in the 1960's.

Once in a while, we even watched the movie (LOL).

Gotta try it.

Took the kids on Saturday evening to see the premiere of IRON MAN. We had an awesome time. Where else can you see a first run movie for $5.00 per person? (Kids 6-12 are only $2.00!!!).

We've been to the Raleigh Road Drive-In a few times now after discovering it last year.
Memorial Day weekend was great for them...they had sellouts - a good sign for the new owners. They operated year-round this past winter. When we went, there weren't many cars, but it was cold or rainy each time. Looking forward to going in the summer with a convertible, though they don't have as many kid-friendly (our daughter is 8) movies as I would like.
