Is anyone here familiar with the "mothers & more" chapter in Wake County? We were visiting during the Lazy Daze festival in Cary and saw there was a booth there and I looked them up online, and it looks interesting. Wondering if anyone knew how active this group was and if anyone had firsthand experience. Unfortunately we did not have chance to stop by the booth!

I don't know how active this group is. I just looked at the website and I wouldn't pay $45 a year for membership. I belong to a Triangle mother's group that's free and sponsored in Carolina Parent.

I went to a meeting of the Southwest Wake group. Southwest Wake Mothers and More Chapter 190 They seemed to be fairly active, with activities every week or two. It looked like they had at least 30-40 active members. I definitely like their philosophy on sequencing and their lobbying efforts. However, the meeting was so far from my home that it just wasn't practical for me.

I'm probably a bad person to ask that question, because I tend to evaluate these sort of expenses under the category of "charitable giving" rather than "cost/benefit."

I think all parents' groups have expenses, and the way they address them varies. Some pay them using sponsorships (e.g. Carolina Parent) or by encouraging members to use Goodsearch, and some pay them by charging dues. Since Mothers and More has regular meetings in a large space, they have to pay for that space and I have no problem contributing to that space. Their national organization does several press releases a year and some political lobbying that I agree with, so I have no problem contributing to that Mothers & More. I think of the dues as $20-$25 to each category. I do like the lack of corporate sponsorship on their site.

But it all really depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking to meet other moms and have a few playgroups, then there are probably cheaper and closer options. If their mission statement really speaks to you, then they seemed like a good group.

At this point, yes... Once I'm doing more work outside the home I may benefit from a group like this more.
