I don't....but that doesn't change that point that your juxtaposition is proper silliness.

There is risk mitigation that people can rightfully take in their own lives, at an individual level, without going all the way to "smoking kills....and we don't do crazy about that!" to make your point.

Discussing smoking and COVID reminds me how much I hate walking by someone smoking when I'm wearing my mask and it fills up with that crap and I have to undo it to get some fresh air. Time to ban that crap, at least in public...and around children anywhere.

Really, since this virus has disrupted things so much and has us all tuned into public health, maybe we should be looking at ways to make some changes rather then going back to the way things were. So rather than being like hey we don't take smoking/flu/etc seriously so why freak out over COVID, maybe we should be freaking out about more. I'm certainly glad about the focus on hand washing. Hopefully that's a lesson that carries on.

Where have I said I'm against risk mitigation if people want to take it?

Nowhere. My entire reason for jumping in was your "COVID Deaths compared to Smoking Deaths" and our societal reaction to that, which was your point right? I.e "half a million people die from a really bad lifestyle choice...and we don't freak out about that!?!?!? so why we freaking out about half as many deaths?"

I think long term, avoiding germs might end up making one's immune system weaker. Initially it will have a positive effect but over time, probably not. I'm not saying you should lick toilet seats or door handles but ultimately that isn't how the human race will continue to survive over the course of time. The Europeans landed in the US and exposed the natives to diseases they had never seen before, and it wiped them out.

I'm still blown away on the hand soap shortages we saw at the beginning which clearly shows how many people walk around with dootie/pecker/lady part hands which is Efffing gross.

Heathens.

Yes - because there's just no way that people are washing their hands more than necessary during Covid

I think it's pretty safe to say it's extremely unlikely you'll get covid from touching something. Yet people are still obsessive. I *still* have friends spraying down groceries.

At the very beginning? Yup, dootie hand soap adopters.

6-8 months later? I haven't seen soap rationed at any store I shop at like I was at the beginning.

Yes I find it disheartening what society chooses to focus on. As a whole, we tend to see the trees, not the forest.
