Got a flyer in the mail today, $29.99 for 24 months for our 50 mbps service. Then it goes to (I assume) $44.99. Might call and confirm. If so, that saves $288 over two years. Maybe worth the risk? No telling what will be available options in two years though, they might jack up rates again.

I called Spectrum for $50 12 month offer and was declined. Customer service told me that offers are only for new customers. The flyer I got in the mail was clear it is for existing Earthlink customers and offer is valid till 12/18. Anyone faced this?

I called and I was told I was her first so luckily she saved the email. She tried to get me a landline and cell phone plan with Spectrum too. Very Very pushy.

She also didn't seem to understand that Earthlink was Spectrum or how the arrangement worked.

Then the $50 a month turned out to be before other fees. It was $5 more for the WIFI and another fee for new equipment as she claimed I couldn't get WIFI with what I had.

I said forget it. She said I couldn't and I said I didn't have to do a thing to keep my current service.

My offers that I got every week and someone stopped to the house too go to the 30th. I just noticed they all have different phone numbers.

Get their basic modem (which should be included for free), and use your own wireless router for WiFi. Really easy!

Oh, btw, if I keep the old plan, the bill goes up from $50 to $56 from next month. Maybe, it will rise at a slower rate than switching to Spectrum plan.

Oh my goodness, Earthlink. I have not thought of that name since the dial up days and AOL. I know they're still around but I don't think a lot of people realize it.

Current rate plan for EarthLink customers is now:

$29.99/24 months, then
$39.99/12 months, then
$49.99/12 months, then
$59.99/12 months, then
$69.99/month

So looks like we will be paying less than we were before for three years. Gives me enough time to come up with an alternative solution to the price gouging .

I will do the same for 3 years. After that cancel and sign for an At&t promo for a year then at the end of that year go back to spectrum and just keep playing the game. I have been doing this for over 15 years.

I really enjoyed Earthlink. For many years it was $24.99 then it went to $34.99 with higher speed. Then $41.99 off the promo. I was fine with that. I dislike playing these sorts of games. AT&T wants to install a box on the inside of my house (fiber). My wife does video calls WFH and we stream movies, never had any issues with cheapie 50mb service. I'm a big fan of the Wal-Mart pricing plan...low prices everyday, none of this switcheroo stuff.

With the promo AT&T did come out to $29 I think for the first year. Average over two years was around $38 IIRC.

I'm hoping to see Verizon come out with sufficient bandwidth on wide area wireless service to compete with cable. I also hate Spectrum's stupid "boil the frogs" rate hikes. I've been with Verizon for 3 years now and they have not altered my phone plan.
