We use the internet to stream movies, check the weather etc. We didn't think it was worth it to pay $70 for 1 Gigabit. Maybe we'll rethink that.
(After re-reading my prior comment on this thread, I think I sounded a ltitle obnoxious. My apologies.)
I don't look at internet service as speed. I look at its reliability, the quality of the customer service when/if needed, and if if it's providing the level of service I need.
Frankly, I barely look at speeds. I liken that to the horsepower in my car; It's ONLY relevant/necessary on rare occasions. For most every day driver's, HP I'd bragging rights. Virtually everything sold today will be better than adequate. Same is true for interent speeds.
99.99% chance it's a router issue. It almost always is.
I had a TV (roku) remote die the other day. As in, it just stopped working, no buttons worked even with new batteries. A remote. How much use do they see? It couldn't have been more than a couple years old.
Not saying you don't still have an issue, but have you exhausted the troubleshooting options?
A few years back I had issues with my Roku and a combination of resets and calls to Support sorted it. It happened a couple times and support helped both times, and never had issues again. Both of the ones I've had lasted for years.
My friend who lives near Charleston, West Virginia told me recently that Frontier is notorious there for their godawful service. I guess that's why the company is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to absolve itself of 10,000,000,000 dollars in debt.
Every cable/internet company is known for terrible service. It's an industry where it's impossible to keep people happy. Most issues are due to things done on the customer end, not due to the service itself, but it's always the providers fault in the customer's eyes.

Umm, I don't think that very many people with Google Fiber internet think they are getting "terrible service." From what I hear (but have no personal experience of) people with AT&T fiber aren't kevitching either.

It's new, and not many people have it yet. Nothing compared to Spectrum or ATT.
Just wait til they start resurfacing roads and cut the fiber that's barely buried under the pavement.
Router suggestion: buy a high-end Netgear at Costco.
It's always returnable, and the stats on mine show I've not had to reboot in over 81 days as of today!
45-50 devices, 230/15 wi-fi speeds from Spectrum.
I'm technical but not sure what router to buy. I think I have DSL not sure. Will try the new router tomorrow.
