Yankee folk in Chapel Hill seem to like the new Brandwein Bagels on Rosemary St. I mostly like all the bagels. My kids tend to like Trader Joe's bagels. I have made bagels a couple of times during 2020 Covid times and they are pretty easy and pretty good even w/o NY water or whatever the secret ingredient is.

I was going to say Brandwein too with an asterisk because I haven't been there yet.

Also, Ess-A-Bagel ships through Goldbelly and is wildly overpriced, except when they have 2 for 1 sales as they did recently (and may still be having). THE TRUE BEST, THOUGH.

My parents were from the Bronx so I know NY bagels and while I haven't found any quite as good as NY...I'll go with Brueggers and NY Deli too!

Last year, we took a trip to NY for some shopping. Of course, we had to have bagels and pizza! Just when I thought I had convinced myself that Brueggers and NY Deli were the best, WHAM! A NY bagel just can't be beat!

As for NY pizza, with a grade of 100%, Randy's gets a grade of 99%!

We have gotten takeout and I enjoyed them, but I am not a bagel snob. I also liked my homemade ones, maybe a little better because they were fresh. I also like Brueggers and Trader Joes, so I'm definitely more of a gourmand than gourmet.

I'm going rogue like Vickie R. and mentioning pizza.

Has anyone ever tried Pizzeria Veritas across from the Volvo dealership in Cary. It can be inconsistent but it gets my vote for the area.

However, best pizza in NY? Pontillo's in Geneseo NY. Been around for 70 years. Sooooo, if you're ever in the Rochester area (and who doesn't have the occasion to be there) try it. You're welcome!

I've made them a couple of times too and I like them, though they weren't great when I did it.

I might return to attempting them but first I am perfecting pizza dough (though I do like Randys)

I am not a fan of Benchwarmers bagels. Brown Bag Bagels out of Clayton or Big Steve's Bagels near McGee's Crossroads are better.

I used the King Arthur Flour recipe and it worked pretty well for me, but it makes 8 regular sized bagels. If you make 12 they are mini-bagels.
