I've read a bunch of threads about Governors Club and I get that it's a nice place to live for retirees - not so much for young families. That aside, my wife and I would not be interested in joining the club on any level and we're wondering if we would be considered outcasts if we decided to move there.
We'd appreciate any thoughts on this.

Thanks!

Josh

Doesn't the HOA require you to join the club? If they do, then damn, you're spending A LOT of money on stuff you're never going to use. . .

There are SO MANY excellent neighborhoods for young families here, and if you ever visited GC you will know that they are like they own little town in the middle of nowhere, if you like their style of houses you can find similar ones in Wake Forest, Cary, etc. Its kinda lonely in GC...IMHO

I have shown the same house to three different sets of clients in Governors Club in the past year....that is still on the market.

I can't fathom buying in GC if one does not want to be part of the country club/culture of that community. Terrible investment otherwise TBH.

Stunningly beautiful topography/aesthetic and well-built homes in GC... It's just a very niche community that generally does not hold it's value at all from a resale perspective.

What's the cost to join the club as a homeowner? Guessing they have a non-golf (social) membership option?

We seriously looked at GV 5 years ago. One house we were interested in back then never sold.....as of 6 months ago. Other homes have sold after sitting for a year or so and at least 2 decent price reductions.

When you see GV for the first time it impresses. But then you look at the resales, history of decent HOA fee increases, club membership fees (can't remember, separate entity?) and the remote location....other closer in area's start to look more attractive.

Oh, depending on where in GV, just the drive out of the gated community takes some time.
